Volume 2 is a <strong>Commentary <\/strong>Volume, including a complete transcription of the manuscript as well as a wealth of research related to Leck\u00fcchner and his works.<\/p>\n<div class=\"menu-item-title\">\n<p class=\"menu-item-description preFade fadeIn\">by Hans Leck\u00fcchner (author) and Michael Chidester (editor)<\/p>\n<p class=\"menu-item-description preFade fadeIn\">The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek manuscript\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wiktenauer.com\/wiki\/Kunst_des_Messerfechtens_(Cgm_582)\" target=\"blank_\">Cgm 582<\/a>\u00a0is a German fencing manual commissioned by Hans Leck\u00fcchner in 1482. This was our third facsimile, which is now on the verge of selling out, so to keep the Commentary Volume useful, we decided to release the scans from the facsimile as a normal book.<\/p>\n<p class=\"menu-item-description preFade fadeIn\">Two potential autograph copies of Leck\u00fcchner\u2019s treatise are preserved: Heidelberg\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wiktenauer.com\/wiki\/Kunst_des_Messerfechtens_(Cod.Pal.Germ.430)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cod. Pal. germ. 430<\/a>, completed in 1478, and this manuscript, completed on 19 January 1482 (less than a year before his death). The latter mentions in the last paragraph that a previous draft had been produced, which was likely the source for the shorter version included by Hans von Speyer in the Salzburg\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wiktenauer.com\/wiki\/Codex_Speyer_(MS_M.I.29)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ms.\u00a0M.\u2160.29<\/a>\u00a0in 1491.<\/p>\n<p class=\"menu-item-description preFade fadeIn\">Cgm 582 excels these other two contemporary copies of Leck\u00fcchner&#8217;s teachings both in its length\u2014it is half again as long as CPG 430\u2014and in that nearly every page includes a lavish watercolor illustration by an artist from the circle of Michel Wolgemut.
