Description

Replica of a so-called Viking ring needle from Norway.

This detailed replica of a historical Viking era robe is based on an original find from Vågå in Oppland, Norway and dates from the 9th century.

The historical model of the Viking ring needle replica is now owned by the British Museum in London.

This special type of clothing needle (Swedish ringnål) was mainly part of men’s clothing in the Viking Age and is provided with a movable ring. To close the cape, the needle is passed vertically through the layers of fabric. The ring tilts forward and secures the needle thanks to its weight.

The Viking ring needle is made of bronze.

The replica of the Viking ring needle has a length of 13.5 cm, the ring has a diameter of 4.2 cm.
